Sad Event : And Kwabena Yeboah Wept For Kotoko ..
I guess many of you might have heard it ? But I still have goose bumps recollecting the scene. How renowned writer and senior journalist Kwabena Yeboah wept bitterly for over 20 minutes in the studios of Angel 96.1 fm today when the events and memorabilia that characterised the 1983 African cup final between Asante Kotoko and Ahly was revisited.
The writer who travelled with the team throughout their campaign that glorious years was listening with keen interest, a recorded tape of Joe Carr, the goalkeeping hero of the team. As Carr narrated how the team fought heart out to secured a goalless draw in Cairo, the playing body having a meeting in mid air on their flight back planning on how to undo the Egyptians in the return encounter and the determination and commitment of the entire staff to win the trophy for Asanteman.
Kwabena Yeboah by now had bowed down his head as nobody knew what he was doing. Suddendly, when Carr talked about how the match was won, describing Opoku Nti's goal and ...the euphoria that crowned the trophy presentation at Manhyia, the 'Writer' couldnt hold back his tears. Cried as he did, everyone in the studio had their spirits down.
The first words he retorded after a long period of tear-shedding shook his head in pain
"I cannot believe it but...but this is not Kotoko. How did we get down to here, I still cant believe it". But anyway I blame everyone including myself for contributing towards the total and complete deterioration of this institution up to this level, I dont call Kotoko a club, I call it an institution".
"How can were get such sefless leaders again. How can we get such committed players again. How can we find people who will wholeheartesly serve this institution without thinking about their welfare and personal wealth"? He asked.
I guess there are many of these crying fans out there. I guess there are many who will just throw in their everything to help this club. I guess there are many of such fans who knows about only one source of joy. JUST Kotoko. But there comes leaders who come in with wiped clean hands, and leave with fortunes at the detriment of these loyal fans. Hmmmmm.
