Asomdwe 100.9 FM Welcomes Adakabre Frimpong Manso
Celebrated broadcast journalist Adakabre Frimpong Manso, has dumped his paymasters, Multimedia Group Limited, and picked up a new juicy job with the Despite Group of Companies, specifically Asomdwe 100.9 FM, News One can confirm.
Mr. Frimpong Manso henceforth works as Head of Programmes, Head of News and host of the Morning Show on Asomdwe 100.9 FM.
His movement to Asomdwe 100.9 FM comes not long after Multimedia, owners of Adom FM, abruptly removed him from the station as host of the station’s morning show and sent him to Multi TV; a sort of reshuffle that does not make him jobless but makes him relatively irrelevant.
“The deal is sealed. Talks have concluded. Adakabre would be moving to Asomdwe 100.9 FM and he is happy with his new job and has promised to do his best to raise the station”, a source close to him told News One.
Adakabre Frimpong Manso is a very common name when talking about morning show hosts in Ghana. He is one man people admire and when he comes face to face with politicians, he always pounches them to the wall with his questions.
The newly-established Asomdwe 100.9 FM is from the stables of the Despite Group of Companies.
The company currently owns and manages Ghana’s leading stations; Peace 104.3 FM, Okay 101.7 FM, Hello FM, (UTV) and an on-line media www.peacefmonline.com.
Adakabre’s movement to Asomdwe 100.9 FM does not come as a surprise because the Despite Group of Companies has, over the years, been noted for poaching some of the best talents from media houses all over the country and when stations was established, it sent owners and managers of other radio station jittery.
Reports say Asomdwe 100.9 FM would be a predominantly Akan-speaking station and that; talks are ongoing to poach some more industry big names.
Already, test transmission is underway but not many people who tune in to 100.9 FM know the name of the station because no jingle is played and the station’s name is also not mentioned. All it does for now is to play music with absolutely no talk.
A few big names from Akan-speaking radio stations are said to have been contacted and ‘crossover’ negotiations are underway.
Some of the industry big names that the Despite Group of Companies have poached from other stations include Chairman-General Kwami Sefa Kayi and Fiifi Banson who were won over from Radio Gold, Abeiku Santana from Adom FM, Billy Ocean from Otec FM, Kwame Amu from Hot FM, Odi Ahinkan from Solid FM and Micky Darling from Happy FM.
Though the private radio industry is heavily saturated, the fact that Asomdwe 100.9 FM is from the stables of the Despite Group Of Companies, it is in a good position and a good place for competition, considering the fact the company’s two other stations, PEACE FM and OKAY FM, have consistently remained the two most listened to radio station in Accra, according to a ‘Synovate’ survey report of radio and television consumption in Ghana.
