Kotoko set to shine against Bejaia
Algerian side JSM Bejaia might have flown from Algiers to Accra confidently. They further might have stormed Kumasi so expectant of a good game – a game that could see them advance to the last round of matches in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
But there is a strong message. A message from Kumasi Asante Kotoko which is: regardless of how fiercely Bejaia fight for a win, they will eventually be the vanquished side. Kotoko have made steady progress. They kicked out Equatorial Guinea’s Sony Nguema on an 8-0 aggregate and drew 0-0 away to Bejaia on March 15.
The Porcupines are bent on kicking JSM Bejaia out of the competition. The venue for the potentially fiery clash is the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and kickoff is at 2pm. Kotoko are poised for a win. Nothing will deter the fabulous team from going all out for triumph.
Amidst criticisms of creating decent chances yet failing to convert well, Kotoko silenced its critics by trouncing Agbozome Weavers 4-1 in the MTN FA Cup match in Ho on Wednesday.
And if that was not a confirmation of how eager the Porcupines are to demolish any side that crosses their path, then the 6-0 routing of Shining Stars in a trial on Friday dispelled all doubts.
The defensive play the Porcupines adopted in the first leg will not be totally done away with this afternoon since the team must show strength in defence to prevent Bejaia from scoring. Yet on a day where goals are very much needed, the Porcupines must open-up to score and score more.
There could be a goal harvest. But even if that does not happen, the teeming Kotoko fans will be so content with a win because that is the only thing that will ensure qualification to the next stage of the competition. Good luck to Coach Mas-ud Didi Dramani and his players.
