World soccer governing body, Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) has given the green-light for three African teams at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

This follows the decision to increase the number of participants to 24, eight more than the previous 16. Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates FIFA took the decision at a recent meeting of its Executive Committee.

By this, the top three teams at the Africa Women’s Championship (AWC) to be held in 2014 in Namibia will represent the continent at the women’s version of the Mundial. It will be the first time Africa will be parading three teams at the tournament since its inception in 1991.

The move will come as good news to the Ghana’s Black Queens, which have slump the pecking order behind Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea in recent times.

The Queens missed out on the last tournament held two years ago in Germany after failing to reach the final of the AWC in 2010 in South Africa. The finalists for that AWC, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea qualified for the global tournament.
