2013 Ghana Music Awards set for May 18

After weeks of doubts as to when the 2013 edition of the Ghana Music Awards will be held,
organizers of the awards, Charter House has finally released a date for the event.

The annual awards, which honours the talent and works of Ghanaian musicians, usually holds in April every year but the unavailability of a suitable venue has forced the organizers to push the event to a new venue and date.

It was earlier reported that organizers had scheduled the awards night for Saturday, April 13.

The year’s event was thrown into a limbo after managers of the Dome of the Accra International Conference, which is currently the country’s largest events venue with a sitting capacity of about 4,000, announced its closure for renovations works.

Sources close to Charter House have confirmed to Myjoyonline.com that this year’s awards will hold on Saturday, May 18 at the Accra International Conference Centre, which seats about 2,000 people.

The Conference Centre had been the main venue for the awards for several years but the last three editions of the awards had been held at the Dome due to the huge patronage of the event which has been tagged as music’s biggest night.

The change in venue is expected to have a heavy toll on the pockets of patrons because they would have to pay more to attend the awards ceremony.

With date and venue hurdles now cleared, Charter House are expected to also make public dates for the Nomination Jam, the Industry Seminar and the Industry Awards night which precede the awards night.
