Nicki Minaj Leaving ‘American Idol’ — Report
Well, here’s some news that should surprise… absolutely no one. Though Nicki Minaj has yet to release an official statement, a source close to the “Super Bass” singer tells Us Weekly that she won’t be returning to American Idol as a judge next season.
“It’s safe to say she isn’t coming back to Idol,” the source says. ”She’s OK with it. She had a great time, but was only going to do one season anyway.”
Nicki, 30, will reportedly focus on touring, putting out another album and making good on her endorsements.
If the rumors turn out to be true — which, let’s face it, they will — Nicki will join fellow judge Randy Jackson on his way out of the Idol family. He released the following statement, announcing his departure:
Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season,” he told Us in a statement on May 9. “I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity, but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.
Nicki Says Working On ‘Idol’ Has Been ‘A Dream’
During a visit to the American Idol set last month, HollywoodLife.com asked Nicki if she was returning for another season, and her answer was dodgy — to say the least:I think people would rather be surprised. I like to save the mystery and the drama. I never give that away, but you know what? I always say this, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, that just the people behind the scenes at Idol have been just like a dream to work with and I really, really honestly mean that.
